Summary: The likelihood of encountering multilingual individuals, non-English-speaking individuals, and non-native speakers of English in the clinic is becoming more common. As audiologists are working with linguistically diverse populations, they may find themselves asking, “How should I evaluate speech perception in my patients who are not monolingual speakers of English? Summary: This on demand webinar explores how telepractice (also known as telespeech, teleaudiology, and telehealth) is revolutionizing clinical care and describe how ethical principles can inform and inspire exemplary telepractice that serves to improve the quality of life for individuals with communication disorders. The presenter shares clinical scenarios that present the fundamentals of telepractice, with a focus on the guiding principles in the ASHA Code of Ethics. Summary: Prior to 2020, a remote model of hearing health care had been applied primarily to remote populations and/or limited to hearing screening and counseling services. Now, in the face of a global pandemic that makes face-to-face services risky, there has been an urgent demand for more information about teleaudiology. This session will review the evolution of teleaudiology, including provider and patient attitudes concerning the perceived benefits, disadvantages, and outcomes associated with remote audiologic care. The speaker will describe an existing, commercial, patient-centered teleaudiology model of hearing health care that is designed to increase accessibility and reduce cost while maintaining the audiologist’s central role as a critical component of care throughout the patient journey.

Summary: The first article in this SIG 18 activity investigates the applications speech-language pathologists (SLPs) and audiologists used most frequently during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also discusses the main obstacles to providing speech, language, and hearing services through telepractice. Through the international distribution of an electronic survey, a total of 1,466 surveys from SLPs and audiologists from 40 countries were used for the analysis. The second article discusses the Auditory Verbal UK's training program for prospective listening and spoken language specialist certified auditory verbal therapists delivered globally via telepractice. The article explores, from a global perspective, audiology and early intervention services and perspectives regarding telepractice. The third article explores parents' and therapists' views of the benefits and challenges of telepractice for early intervention for children who are deaf or hard of hearing during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through survey and analysis, the article probes the views of parents, Listening and Spoken Language Specialist Certified Auditory Verbal Therapists in using telepractice to deliver auditory verbal sessions.

Summary: Clinical services for tinnitus have expanded greatly since the "masking" method was introduced in the 1970s, but no one treatment method has proven any more effective than any other. Summary: Streamed audio has grown from a technological novelty into a distinct listening environment for hearing aid users. This presents a unique listening environment that can prove difficult to verify, as streamed audio is not an external stimulus and cannot be verified using conventional methods. This session describes a new and accessible verification method aimed at the streamed audio environment, ensuring that hearing aid users receive optimal benefit in their digital soundscape.
