Summary: This course features moderated discussions among a panel of clinicians who collectively provide cochlear implant auditory rehabilitation (AR) to patients of all ages. Topics and discussions demonstrate the need to expand and differentiate intervention approaches based on the unique needs of individual patients with cochlear implants. Panelists review recent studies, present translational applications, share case studies and examples, illustrate multidisciplinary professional roles, and discuss evidence-based assessment and treatment. Summary: This on demand webinar shares a framework for collaboration and consultation that school-based SLPs can use to support young students in their natural learning environments. Summary: This session discusses a project that established a cross-sector national consortium of self-advocates with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD), family advocates, community providers, and health care professionals. The consortium guides and evaluates an environmental scan and literature review on best practices in educating health care professional students in the care of persons with IDD, including health care professional students addressing communication disorders.

Summary: Multilingual children are often over- or under-identified as having speech- and/or language-related disorders. This on demand webinar reviews the underlying causes of this disproportionality, the role that SLPs can play in prevention, and the importance of nonbiased assessment. The presenter discusses how SLPs can improve the accuracy of language-related disorder identification in schools by leveraging their unique skill set. The webinar presents a framework for disproportionality prevention as well as information about specific assessment methods.

Summary: This session addresses the realities of child abuse and the SLP’s responsibility to recognize and report abuse. The speaker discusses legal definitions, signs, and symptoms of child abuse as well as common perpetrators and how they gain access to children through a process called grooming. The session—a recorded session from ASHA’s 2020 Private Practice Connect online conference—addresses how to communicate with a child who makes a disclosure, the importance of making a report, how to make a report, and how to overcome the fears and barriers around reporting.
