Summary: In the era of COVID-19, clinicians in health care settings have faced challenges in the evaluation and treatment of a new patient population - those who have had COVID-19 - requiring us to reframe our current treatment techniques. Summary: Loss of effective communication can occur across the spectrum of critical illness and recovery, particularly with the use of artificial airways, including endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes. Patients report ongoing, long-term impacts to their psychosocial well-being and quality of life due to their lack of ability to communicate immediate care and comfort needs as well as participate in activities with a variety of communication partners. This session focuses on identifying, measuring, and supporting a patient's psychosocial well-being and quality of life as it relates to communication function.

Summary: This course explores factors that contribute to health inequities for individuals who report a hearing loss. Individuals with hearing loss report miscommunication, inaccessible health information, reduced awareness by health care providers, and low patient satisfaction while struggling with inadequate health literacy. The course discusses ideas for rethinking and redesigning our health care, through the guidance of innovative clinics and programs, to address these inequities and care for these individuals effectively.

Summary: Many clinicians may feel they lack the time, skills, or competence to effectively address diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI); it might feel like one more thing on an already-long list of considerations and requirements. But if we focus on our passion for working with people and change our perspective about providing culturally responsive services, then it's not more work, it is the work. This course discusses the value of addressing DEI as part of audiology and SLP services and provides practical ideas for doing so.

Summary: Principles of motor learning (PML) are guidelines developed for the purpose of training motor execution of movement. Initially designed for training in the limbs, the methods have been adapted for use with the oral motor system.
