Summary: This on demand webinar will equip SLPs in acute and post-acute health care settings with practical strategies for incorporating neurology and neuroradiology findings into assessment and treatment of language and cognition in patients recovering from a stroke. Summary: While clinicians may know the fundamentals of evidence-based practice (EBP), many struggle to implement EBP in real-world situations with their clients. Often, this is due to limited research, a lack of high-quality research, or the absence of a clear takeaway from external scientific literature. In this course, participants will learn more about these obstacles and strategies to overcome them. Learning how to navigate these barriers will assist clinicians in making patient-centered and evidence-based clinical decisions. Summary: This course explores Innovating & Situating Practice in Rich Environments (InSPiRE), a novel approach to aphasia intervention. InSPiRE works with clinicians to recognize discourse patterns typical of restricted and rich environments and to apply discourse practices strategically, both to enrich clinical activities and to promote improved communication between individuals with aphasia and their everyday communication partners. The speakers discuss interactional research and practical strategies for topic management, contingent responses, shaping conversational narratives, creative use of collaborative referencing techniques, and other methods for creating rich communicative environments. This course – part of the SIGnature Series – was developed by SIG 2: Neurogenic Communication Disorders.
