ASHA Learning Pass

To maximize the amount and quality of data collected in research repositories for children with hearing loss, attention must be given to clinical utility as well. This course describes a project that integrates data collection for general research purposes with routine clinical flow. Using easily accessible software, a clinical-research database was created that emphasizes ease of use for clinicians and patients, including features to electronically administer surveys to patients and families, utilize data already entered to determine subsequent questions, and summarize data entered to be recycled for clinical documentation. Additionally, the database acts as a central hub for patient care, where providers from multiple disciplines enter and access data, streamlining the process for patients.

This course is a recorded technical research session from the 2021 ASHA Convention Virtual Library (session 4630V).

Dr. Amanda Griffin (Non-Presenting Author) is a clinical-research audiologist at Boston Children's Hospital. As the Director of Audiology Research, her primary line of research focuses on the effects of pediatric unilateral hearing loss in school-age children. She also provides clinical services to children in the Cochlear Implant Program.
