ASHA Learning Pass

This SIG 1 activity focuses on ethical challenges that audiologists and SLPs may face in various school-based scenarios. A 5-step ethical decision-making approach is presented. An ethical decision-making model is used to help prepare clinicians for the ethical continuation of telepractice in schools. Some thoughts and tools for connecting ethical practices with the provision of culturally sensitive/responsive services are provided.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

• explain the steps in an ethical decision-making process
• apply an ethical decision-making model to analyze moral and ethical dilemmas regarding the continuation of telepractice in the schools
• describe the difference between cultural sensitivity and cultural competence
• identify common ethical situations in school-based services
• list at least two resources available to promote ethical decision making
