Presenter(s): Elizabeth (Liz) Delsandro, MS, CCC-SLP; Kathryn Basco, MA, CCC-SLP
Course Description

This webinar explores provision of SLP services for preschool and school-age children with mild to moderate impairment in their development as a result of early medical diagnoses and experiences such as premature birth, congenital anomalies, and chronic medical conditions. The speakers discuss the impact of early diagnoses or disorders on children’s future development; the developmental outcomes for these children; and strategies and tools to support these children and their families.

Learning Outcomes You will be able to:

  • Identify and define three medical conditions that result in an infant being diagnosed as medically fragile
  • Explain the impact of specific early medical diagnoses and frequent and/or prolonged hospitalizations on a child’s development and behavior
  • Describe how feeding development may be impacted in children with significant early medical complexity
  • Develop a table/chart pairing potential developmental challenges with early medical diagnoses and experiences, and use it as a tool to build understanding between team members so they can better support and advocate for these children
