ASHA Learning Pass

Drawing on key findings from learning science and andragogy, this course explores the role of time in adult learning, especially the need to revisit information and skills periodically so they will stick with you long-term. Presenters discuss using spaced repetition (revisiting new information over time) and deliberate practice (using practice opportunities that target new skills rather than just repeating what you already know) in support of learning that sticks.

• Describe how learning is a process rather than an event (though educational events like courses and conferences can be part of the process)
• Use time to create schedules that leverage spaced repetition and distributed practice
• Explain how learning progress tends to follow an S-curve

Presenter Information

Celisa Steele, MA, has spent more than two decades designing, developing, delivering, and marketing adult lifelong learning, continuing education, and professional development programs. She’s worked with and for organizations ranging from smaller groups like the Frameworks Institute and the Alliance of Chicago Community Health Services to large national and multinational organizations like the American Red Cross, American College of Radiology, and Society for Human Resource Management.
