Embodied Cognition and Language Development: The Use of Play in Language Therapy (PD103074)
As speech-language pathologists, we have a lot to learn from our partners in the occupational therapy world, especially when it comes to viewing the children we work with from a more holistic lens. It is with interdisciplinary collaboration that we can begin to meld the body-based and language-based research and knowledge to redefine the embodied experience of the whole child. This course dives into embodied cognition and the role it plays in creating meaningful experience to grow language within the context of motor and sensory experiences. Presenters explore the partnership of an occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist within a specific case study to further emphasize the value of interdisciplinary care within development and communication.
This course was recorded at the 2023 ASHA Convention in Boston (session 1833).
