Description:

Historically, much of the curriculum and practice for audiologists has centered around hearing evaluation and management, with less focus on the vestibular system and its complexities. This webinar will help audiologists gain a deeper understanding of vestibular and balance disorders in children, including tools for diagnosis and strategies for management.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

• Describe the development, function, anatomy, and physiology of the vestibular system in children
• Identify the signs and symptoms of different etiologies of vestibular and balance disorders in children
• Discuss diagnostic tools and techniques for pediatric vestibular disorders, including VNG, rotational chair testing, and others
• Explain the importance of the audiologist’s involvement on the multidisciplinary management team for pediatric patients with vestibular and balance issues

Presenter Information

Sharon Cushing, MD, FRCSC, MSc, is a full-time pediatric otolaryngologist and the Director of the Cochlear Implant Program at The Hospital for Sick Children and a professor in the Department of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto. Dr. Cushing has a clinical and surgical interest in disorders of the ear, including hearing loss and vestibular dysfunction. Her research interest includes vestibular and balance dysfunction in children and its association with hearing loss and cochlear implantation.
