Description:

This webinar will equip SLPs in acute and post-acute health care settings with practical strategies for incorporating neurology and neuroradiology findings into assessment and treatment of language and cognition in patients recovering from a stroke. The presenter will also provide insights into the medical management landscape for this patient population. The webinar aims to bridge the gap between complex neuroimaging and neurosurgical intervention and actionable, SLP-relevant insights to enhance clinical decision-making and patient outcomes.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • Integrate neuroimaging insights into patient assessment and treatment planning 
  • Identify indicators of prognosis and potential co-occurring deficits 
  • Communicate effectively with other health care professionals about the implications of neuroanatomy on speech, language, and cognitive functions

Presenter Information

Melissa Stockbridge, PhD, CCC-SLP (she/her/hers) is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and a speech-language pathologist licensed in the state of Maryland. Her research focuses on improving outcomes for people with cognitive-communication disorders across the lifespan through the development of more effective, inclusive assessment, the investigation of means to augment language treatment, and the integration of individual differences, particularly those related to personality and temperament, into therapeutic approaches to communication disorders.
