This webinar will provide audiologists and SLPs with an overview of trauma-informed care, culturally responsive teaching practices, and tips for engaging adolescents. The presenters will discuss evidence-based strategies for meeting young adults where they are and supporting their social-emotional needs. The webinar will include interactive activities and examples to help connect these concepts to professionals’ background experiences and everyday practice scenarios.

Presenter Information
Kathleen J. Abendroth, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-CL (she/her/hers) is the Clinic Coordinator for the Maryjane Rees Language, Speech and Hearing Center at California State University, Sacramento. She earned her BA in American Politics at the University of Virginia, then returned to study Communicative Disorders, earning her PhD at University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2008. As an SLP, she has worked across settings with a focus on developmental language disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and adolescent language development. She is also interested in how communication differences impact family members, including parents who homeschool.

Ariel Cassar, AuD, CCC-A (she/her/hers) is a dedicated clinical audiologist currently working at Sacramento State University's Doctor of Audiology program. With a wealth of experience garnered from practicing across the globe, Ariel has developed expertise in providing diverse audiologic services. One of the highlights of her career was implementing a successful tinnitus management program while working at a private practice in London, England. Ariel's other interest areas include implantable devices, cerumen management, hearing screenings, and adult diagnostics. Her global experiences have equipped her with a unique ability to provide care to patients of all backgrounds, ensuring that they feel safe, supported, and understood. She is particularly passionate about addressing gaps in audiologic services, especially in underserved communities, and is committed to making audiologic care more accessible and effective.
