Language Comprehension Supports for Adolescents With Developmental Language Disorder (On Demand Webinar) (PD102872)
This was a popular course in November 2024. See more popular courses.
If you are an SLP who works with middle- and high-school-age students with developmental language disorder (DLD), you might have questions like: What is my role? Where do I start? Should I be targeting written language? How do I support comprehension? This webinar will address these questions and more. The presenter will share strategies and ideas for working with teens with language challenges by detecting patterns within earlier-developing language processing skills to increase their ability to unlock the meaning of more complex and abstract language. The webinar will include case examples, modeling, and hands-on practice opportunities. You will walk away with language-based materials to recreate and implement for intervention with students and for interprofessional collaboration with general education teachers.

Presenter Information
Kary Mirasola, MS, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist who has worked for over 20 years as a master's-level clinician. She has spent the majority of her career perfecting the art of supporting school-age and adolescent students in language and literacy. Comprehension is an area of particular passion, as it seems that many professions simply do not understand the critical importance of language comprehension, the connection to reading and academics, and how to support these weaknesses. Kary has had the good fortune to work collaboratively with many talented SLPs, as well as engage in interprofessional practice and develop strong relationships with psychologists, developmental pediatricians and nurse practitioners. Although she has spent the majority of her career employed by a local hospital, her interest and passion for collaboration for school SLPs and teams is something that she has been able to foster over the years. Kary is delighted for this opportunity to present about adolescent language comprehension strategies.
