Lateral Lisp Remediation: Practical Strategies for Elicitation and Generalization (PD102960)

Presenter(s): Amy K Graham, MA, CCC-SLP
Course Description

This was a popular course in September 2024. See more popular courses.

This session focuses on practical assessment and treatment related to lateral lisps. The speaker discusses how to properly assess a child's speech mechanism to uncover—or rule out—underlying structural/functional deficits that could impede progress. The session also shares practical intervention tips to help SLPs elicit non-lateralized target phonemes using phonetic shaping and cognitive reframing. Finally, the speaker discusses how to promote generalization by incorporating principles of motor learning. The session includes videos that illustrate elicitation techniques in real-world situations.

This course is a recorded session from the 2023/2024 ASHA online conference "Speech Sound Disorders in Schools."
