Foundations of Dementia: Maximizing Functional Outcomes (WEB16042)
This course includes four recorded sessions from the 2016 online conference "Maximizing Functional Outcomes for Patients With Dementia." These sessions focus on identification and management of individuals with primary progressive aphasia, Alzheimer’s disease, other major types of dementia, and mild cognitive impairment. The conference included a total of 13 sessions, with the broad goal of describing a range of evidence-based clinical care techniques to get to the heart of patient-centered dementia care.

- Person-Centered Interventions for Primary Progressive Aphasia, by Becky Khayum and Emily Rogalski
- Differentiating Between Normal Aging and Mild Cognitive Impairment, by Valerie B. Fleming
Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:
- identify the four main components of patient-centered dementia care
- describe common communication impairments that accompany different types of dementia
- describe the diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia, differentiate it from other clinical dementia syndromes, and explain the diagnostic process
- list groups that are at greater risk of developing mild cognitive impairment
