Description:

This webinar will discuss the M-E-T-A™ (Mindful Examination of Thinking and Awareness) intervention approach and related evidence-based strategies to help children and adults improve executive functioning and achieve positive outcomes. The presenter will share strategies that children and adults can use to enhance goal-directed planning and future-forward thinking as well as build emotional resilience, gratitude, compassion, and pride.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • Identify the nature and scope of hot and cool executive function, social-emotional regulation, and the role of context in achieving goals 
  • Define and describe the role of mental time travel, future prospection, and emotional gap as they relate to serving the needs of current vs. future self 
  • Utilize the M-E-T-A intervention approach and tools that promote the transfer and generalization of social-emotional, cognitive, and executive function skills into everyday situations

  • Overview of executive function, and goal-directed persistence and adaptive flexibility
  •  Introduction to the framework of Hot & Cool Executive Function as it relates to social-emotional modulation
  • Nature of mental time-travel and future prospection in the context of goal-attainment to serve the needs of the future-self and connecting the emotional gap between the current and future-self in differentiated contexts (Hot vs. Cool Executive Function, Cognitive Load and Affective Coloring)
  • Development of a training plan and a case study and discussion regarding transfer and generalization of skills
  • Evidence-based strategies and M-E-T-A™ (Mindful Examination of Thinking and Awareness) intervention approach

Presenter Information

Sucheta Kamath, MA, CCC-SLP, BC-ANCDS, is the founder and CEO of ExQ®, a TEDx speaker, and an award-winning speech-language pathologist. As an EdTech entrepreneur, Sucheta has created an innovative online digital curriculum that assesses and teaches nine areas of Executive Function skills in children from grades 6 to 12 to help cultivate self-awareness and strategic thinking. In her weekly podcast, “Full PreFrontal: Exposing the Mysteries of Executive Function,” she interviews world-renowned experts across various fields including cognitive neuroscience, developmental psychology, education, contemplative science, and business leadership. She has produced more than 200 episodes and her audience spans more than 150 countries. Sucheta serves on many nonprofit boards including the Leadership Atlanta and the National Multi-Faith Initiative to End Mass Incarceration (EMI) and is deeply committed to racial healing and interfaith community dialogue. In addition, she co-founded a nonprofit called the Georgia Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (GSHF) and has been instrumental in creating and leading a cost-free “Leadership through Communication” training program for Atlanta’s work-ready displaced community. Finally, Sucheta has a more-than-decade-long meditation practice and has completed a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program from the Awareness Training Institute.
