Course Description

This session explores how school-based SLPs can provide students in remote areas with services that are of equal value and effectiveness as those they provide to students in larger population centers. Speakers share resources and service delivery options to empower SLPs to provide and promote remote service delivery.

Presenter Information

Cynthia Atcheson, MS, CCC-SLP, has worked as an itinerant SLP in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District since 2008. She is an Alaska-grown SLP, receiving an MS in Communication Sciences and Disorders through a partnership between the University of Alaska Anchorage and East Carolina University. Cindy completed her master's degree coursework while teaching middle-school language arts in southwestern Alaska. When she is not traveling to remote schools by water taxi, air charter, or four-wheeler, or providing speech telepractice from her office, Cindy enjoys hiking and cross-country skiing with her husband and two dogs.

Amy Hogue, MA, CCC-SLP, works for the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District in Soldotna, Alaska. She graduated from Utah State University and received her master's degree from the University of the Pacific. She is past president of the Alaska Speech-Language-Hearing Association and a member of ASHA's School Finance Committee.
