Parent Coaching & COVID-19: How Practitioners Can Level Up Parent Collaboration to Maximize Outcomes (PD102653)
Research indicates the impact of parent/caregiver involvement on child outcomes. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted that perhaps we were not using a family coaching model as effectively as we thought. With parents in the driver’s seat and clinicians behind a screen, new challenges arose. What exactly would parents do during sessions, and how could we guide them from afar? This session examines ways to collaborate with parents to maximize child outcomes while following research-based coaching guidelines. The speaker reviews tools such as Loom, GoogleDocs, Jamboard, and Pinterest. Participants will gain a better understanding of the importance of parent collaboration as well as specific ideas of fun, innovative ways to connect with parents.
This course is a recorded session from the 2021 ASHA Convention Virtual Library (session 2290V).
