Hearing to Learn in Today's Classrooms (PD102567)
This session explores how hearing level, device use, and room acoustics alter the potential for children who are Deaf or hard of hearing to have auditory access to classroom instruction. The speaker focuses on how access to instruction for children who are who are Deaf or hard of hearing changes with social distancing and mask-wearing and shares creative solutions to real-life barriers to implementing strategies that improve communication.

Presenter Information
Merry Spratford, AuD, CCC-A, is a Senior Research Audiologist in the Audibility, Perception, and Cognition laboratory (Director, Ryan McCreery, PhD) at Boys Town National Research Hospital. She collaborates on multi-site investigations into how children use linguistic and cognitive skills to understand speech in complex listening environments and develop literacy skills into adolescence. Her personal interests focus on translating research to practice, including clinical and educational settings.
