Practical Tips for Remediating Residual R Errors and Lateral Lisps (PD102561)

Presenter(s): Amy K Graham, MA, CCC-SLP
Course Description

Residual /ɹ/ errors and lateral lisps can be among the most difficult articulation distortions to remediate. This session explores how to properly assess the speech mechanism for underlying structural/functional deficits that could impede progress in treatment. The speaker provides practical strategies to help SLPs elicit target phonemes using a phonetic approximation approach along with cognitive reframing. The session also addresses considerations for target selection and strategies to promote generalization.

This course is a recorded session from the 2022 ASHA Schools Connect online conference.
