Course Description


The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted our patients in unusual ways. Patients with COVID-19 can present with a variety of symptoms: from loss of taste and smell, to fatigue, shortness of breath, and coughing. This session reviews current available evidence regarding best practices for dysphagia management for patients with COVID-19 in acute care and during their rehabilitation, including working through a case study.

This course is a recorded session from the 2021 online conference “Maximizing Outcomes for Medically Complex Patients of All Ages.”

You will be able to:

  • summarize current and evolving evidence related to COVID-19 and effectively use it to inform patient care
  • describe how to account for the symptoms of COVID-19 within a comprehensive assessment of swallowing
  • design a treatment plan for COVID-19 that takes a multidisciplinary approach to care
