Summary: This session provides tools for evaluating the picture books you currently use, equips you with arguments for why it is ethically important to use representative picture books and other materials, and helps you identify resources to develop a bookshelf that is aligned with your caseload composition. Summary: Studies on feeding tubes in individuals with advanced illness have raised doubts about the long-term benefit and potential overuse of feeding tubes. SLPs are often asked to offer recommendations about a person’s ability to eat and drink by mouth but may be concerned that restrictions on oral intake could lead to the use of feeding tubes. The boundaries of professional roles are often blurred, further complicating the issue. This course addresses the clinical research surrounding the use of feeding tubes, offers evidence-based practice guidelines, and provides solutions to the challenges facing SLPs with regards to feeding tube overuse.

Summary: This on demand webinar (available beginning November 20, 2020) will address interprofessional collaboration between SLPs and Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs) when assessing and implementing augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Focusing on a case study where collaboration improved outcomes for a young child who uses AAC, the speaker will address terminology and language frameworks used by each field, highlight the perspective of each discipline, and share practical strategies for facilitating collaboration. Participants will walk away with a handout with conversation starters and question prompts SLPs can use to facilitate discussions about AAC with BCBAs.
