Summary: This on demand webinar (available beginning April 27, 2024) will highlight the behaviors and characteristics typically associated with hearing loss and those typically associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children from birth to age 10. The speakers will emphasize the unique characteristics that contribute to the dual diagnosis of both ASD and hearing loss. The course will explain the impacts of social determinants of health as they relate to the diagnosis of and intervention for children with ASD and hearing loss.

Summary: The dynamic profession of audiology includes unique settings and equipment, some of which introduce safety concerns, such as communication challenges specific to working in an isolated space. These challenges are important to address in view of increased violence in the health care workplace. Audiologists may lack information and resources to discuss and address their unique concerns. Summary: According to recent research, an individual's success with using a hearing aid is connected to their cognitive ability. This course reviews the evidence and explains how to apply it to clinical decision-making to improve outcomes for each individual patient.

Summary: It is commonly understood that better outcomes for management and treatment of hearing loss can be linked to greater knowledge and acceptance of the condition by the patient/client/student and their families. Knowledge is power. However, often individuals and their families do not have access to an impartial site hosting a variety of resources for review. This presentation discusses the need and development of an accessible and neutral site where individuals and their families can access diverse information and a variety of literature around topics related to hearing loss. It will also cover the steps for the development of a cultural and informational center, including tips on fundraising and overall management.
