Summary: TMPRSS3 is a genetic variant associated with either progressive or congenital bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Through case studies, this on demand webinar will address multidisciplinary management spanning from diagnosis of hearing loss to cochlear implantation. The presenters will share relevant education for professionals working with children with hearing loss.

Summary: It is commonly understood that better outcomes for management and treatment of hearing loss can be linked to greater knowledge and acceptance of the condition by the patient/client/student and their families. Knowledge is power. However, often individuals and their families do not have access to an impartial site hosting a variety of resources for review. This presentation discusses the need and development of an accessible and neutral site where individuals and their families can access diverse information and a variety of literature around topics related to hearing loss. It will also cover the steps for the development of a cultural and informational center, including tips on fundraising and overall management.

Summary: Inclusion and reporting of clinical research participants from all backgrounds is the cornerstone to developing representative screening, assessment, and treatment models. One way to address the challenges of including a diverse group of participants is by developing community-based research partnerships. This on demand webinar (available beginning November 8, 2024) will discuss the importance of such partnerships as well as strategies to develop and maintain them.

Summary: SLPs who work with infants and children with feeding and swallowing disorders are involved in high-risk patient care. Our knowledge base is broad in some aspects of feeding and swallowing evaluation and management. However, it is critical that we expand our horizons to facilitate the best possible functional outcomes for the whole child and family. This session discusses challenges for the future as a combination of art and science as well as highlights areas of consensus and controversy in the many facets of practice that encompass pediatric feeding and swallowing.
