Summary: This webinar will explore alternative access methods in early childhood along with augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), with a focus on switch access. The speaker will discuss a total access approach assigning meaning to all communication attempts, increasing social interactions and acceptance, and presuming competence for the youngest learners. The webinar will share examples of play-based learning activities that SLPs can customize to meet a child's unique interests and passions while focusing on alternative access methods.

Summary: Language assessment in children who are deaf or hard of hearing often focuses on language outcomes without a precise characterization of the child's language learning history. Speech-language pathologists and other early interventionists need support in ensuring that the child's cumulative experience with linguistic input (or lack thereof) is also captured. This session presents a practical approach for this process that follows emerging research on language access profiles. Summary: This recorded session from the ASHA Audiology 2022 Online Conference provides a comprehensive overview of today's modern and highly sensitive neurodiagnostic vestibular tests, including rotary chair, cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP), and video Head Impulse Testing (vHIT), as well as postural stability assessments. The presenters discuss how integrating these tests creates a diagnosis-based strategy that provides the team of diagnostic and rehabilitation professionals with direction and guidance as to the best vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) strategies for the individual patient. The session includes video examples of the range of VRT strategies, including adaptation and habituation.

Summary: This course describes a study that utilizes a multiple baseline across behaviors design to investigate the efficacy of a caregiver training intervention to increase the use of targeted facilitative language techniques (FLTs)—strategies that caregivers use to encourage language development in their children. This study utilizes telehealth to deliver a training program for caregivers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
