Summary: Ethical leadership, anchored in transformational leadership theory, forms the basis for civility in the workplace. Embodying ethical leadership, ASHA’s focus on communication has resulted in research on declining civility nationally and its implications for members. This growing awareness has prompted ASHA to develop a suite of tools and resources for building and sustaining civility in the CSD professions. Summary: A thorough cranial nerve examination is an essential part of the speech-language pathologist’s evaluation of every patient. When performed, it is useful in the diagnosis of speech and swallowing disorders, and accurate diagnosis is crucial for development of a targeted, individualized treatment plan. This video course provides an overview of the neuroanatomy and physiology of the cranial nerve examination. Participants will receive detailed instructions for testing and interpreting findings of the cranial nerve examination. The course also describes common abnormalities observed for patients with impairment of cranial nerve function.

Summary: Toddlers with a range of communication disorders can be minimally verbal past the age at which children typically begin speaking. Summary: There is not one single, authoritative construct or definition for central auditory processing disorders (CAPDs), which often results in patients receiving a general diagnosis that is not deficit-specific and management strategies that are not individualized and therefore produce less impactful outcomes. This session will describe an alternative approach to characterizing CAPDs – that is, identifying specific clinical entities within the broad construct of CAPDs that professionals can unambiguously diagnose and for which deficit-specific interventions can lead to improved outcomes in auditory processing.
