Summary: School-based SLPs strive to support their students’ success in school. Two critical components of fostering academic success are: (1) provision of services that address the curriculum and (2) collaboration with teachers to make that happen. This video course will present strategies to address both of these essential activities in the context of elementary, middle, and high school settings, including examples of effective collaboration and ideas for overcoming common barriers.

Summary: Due process hearings are legal procedures established in special education to provide for resolution when the parents and school personnel disagree. This session reviews ethical principles associated with due process and the legal responsibilities associated with being a witness in a due process hearing. Summary: Pediatric traumatic brain injuries (TBI) are underreported, which means that many children and teens are not getting needed services to help with post-injury cognitive issues that, though often mild, can cause academic and other difficulties. This webinar will discuss recent advances in the characteristics, recovery trajectories, assessments, and interventions for children and adolescents with TBI. Discussion will include evidence-based approaches to assessment and treatment that SLPs can implement immediately in clinical practice. The speaker will also discuss the important role of the SLP as a multidisciplinary team member treating this patient population and advocating for patients/clients/families.

Summary: Analyzing error patterns in data obtained from production of single words and/or connected speech can be an important step in planning and implementing effective speech sound intervention. This session reviews speech sound error patterns and discusses when error pattern analysis is indicated for preschool and school-age children. The speaker discusses case examples and presents procedures for analyzing speech sound data for error patterns (e.g., frequency, phoneme involved), writing IEP present level of performance based on error pattern analysis, and planning intervention using error pattern data.
