Summary: This on demand webinar will highlight the behaviors and characteristics typically associated with hearing loss and those typically associated with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in children from birth to age 10. The speakers will emphasize the unique characteristics that contribute to the dual diagnosis of both ASD and hearing loss. The course will explain the impacts of social determinants of health as they relate to the diagnosis of and intervention for children with ASD and hearing loss.

Summary: For clinical audiologists and hearing health care professionals, the older "watch and wait" approach to working with children with unilateral or mild hearing loss has evolved. More recent research and professional experience have shown that providing supports and management strategies similar to those used with children who have bilateral hearing loss results in improved outcomes. Summary: This on demand webinar will discuss evaluating children with voice disorders, including determining the appropriate clinical path to a comprehensive voice evaluation. The speaker will present strategies and techniques for collecting and evaluating voice samples; highlight no-tech and low-tech assessment methods; and discuss the importance of identifying children with dysphonic voices from an educational and social-emotional perspective. Summary: Narrative discourse is an important goal for many students across the age span but can be difficult to characterize and track over time due to the multitude of progress monitoring tools to choose from. This session highlights that one narrative assessment approach does not fit all students and that clinicians need to be able to select a rubric that is sensitive to changes in language ability as it becomes more complex over time. The presenter explores currently available rubrics and scoring systems for measuring oral narrative proficiency that utilize different elicitation procedures and scoring criteria and describes a continuum of narrative ability that can serve as a guideline for choosing rubrics that best serve progress monitoring needs for individual students. By reviewing speech sound assessment information, including narrow transcription of a student's utterances, the goals can be tailored to the student, thereby facilitating goal attainment. Summary: This session explores SLPs' active role within the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework and describes its alignment with related educational frameworks and concepts such as Response to Intervention (RtI), Common Core State Standards (CCSS), and Universal Design for Learning (UDL). The speaker shares how SLPs can balance their efforts to work with at-risk students within an MTSS framework with the obligation to meet the needs of students with identified disabilities.
