Summary: This course explores factors that diminish the cognitive capacity of communication sciences and disorders (CSD) students, including poverty, racism, and discrimination based on socially marginalized identities, including disability. Summary: Even before the COVID-19 pandemic required clinicians to rapidly adapt their practice for remote service provision, researchers were already exploring effective telehealth approaches for audiology. The articles in this journal self-study (selected from a special issue of the American Journal of Audiology, “4th International Meeting on Internet and Audiology”) examine teleaudiology tools and methodologies for hearing screenings, home-based auditory assessment for people who use cochlear implants, assessing hearing aid outcomes using ecological momentary assessment (EMA), and a tool for evaluating hearing aid performance.

Summary: While remote service delivery has been around for several years, eAudiology (also known as teleaudiology) is becoming a daily reality for many audiologists, in large part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This course discusses how eAudiology addresses the need for improving patient experience, providing innovative services, and increasing clinic efficiency. The speakers highlight how the recent advances in hearing aid remote programming fit with eAudiology, strategies for introducing eAudiology services to patients who can benefit from them, and how to best utilize eAudiology during and post-pandemic. Summary: Vestibular loss can co-occur with hearing loss. One functional effect of vestibular loss is decreased dynamic visual acuity. There is some speculation that vestibular loss can also affect reading and/or reading acuity. This presentation outlines the relationship between vestibular loss and both dynamic and static visual acuity and its possible effect on reading and other daily activities. This course was presented and recorded at the 2019 ASHA Convention. The session was developed by, and presenters invited by, Hearing, Tinnitus, and Vestibular Science.
