Summary: This session illustrates how telehealth/telepractice can enable professionals to make their services more easily accessible to clients with cochlear implants who are in poor health or live in remote areas where travel is a challenge. This course is a recorded session from the 2019 online conference “Audiology 2019: Cochlear Implants.”
Presenter(s): Bridget Allen Chapman, MA, CCC-SLP

Summary: This session discusses how SLPs in elementary schools can provide comprehensive fluency evaluations and appropriate treatments for their students who stutter. The speaker shares a checklist of skills to assess, discusses the available tools, and outlines treatment activities for children with varied stuttering severity levels. This course is a recorded session from the 2020/2021 online conference “Practical Solutions for Elementary Assessment, Treatment, and Collaboration.”
Presenter(s): J. Scott Yaruss, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-F; Nina Reeves, MS, CCC-SLP, BCS-F

Summary: Acceptance of stuttering is a common but widely misunderstood goal of intervention. In this recorded session from ASHA’s 2021 Schools Connect online conference, two stuttering specialists explain what acceptance means and how it relates to helping people overcome the communication challenges they face. The presenters explore what acceptance is, where it fits into the overall intervention process, and how to help your students gain more comfort and confidence in their communication abilities.

Summary: Children and adults who use cochlear implants and have additional exceptionalities present challenges in diagnostic testing and therapeutic intervention for speech-language pathologists and audiologists. This session reviews current research on communication and quality of life in this population, while also highlighting real-world clinical practices in assessing, treating, and defining success in these patients. This course was presented and recorded at the 2019 ASHA Convention. The session was developed by, and presenters invited by, Audiology Implantables.

Summary: This session is a clinical tutorial that uses cases examples to integrate the practices of language sample analysis and fluency assessment. It focuses on the implementation of fluency codes in narrative retell language samples. Speakers provide information on how to identify and accurately code specific types of disfluencies within a narrative retell language sample. The tutorial provides clinicians with practical tools to use in particular narrative retell language samples to assess fluency and language production skills in bilingual and monolingual children. This course is a recorded session from the 2021 ASHA Convention Virtual Library (session 2160V). Content disclosure: This project focuses on the tool "Systematic Analysis of Language Transcripts (SALT)" to assess fluency in narrative retell language samples.
Presenter(s): René Gifford, PhD, CCC-A; Lauren Calandruccio, PhD, CCC-A

Summary: Recent studies from the presenters’ laboratory demonstrate a relationship between electrode-to-modiolus distance and channel independence. Specifically, children and adults who use cochlear implants (CIs) (precurved electrodes) demonstrate performance gains up to 12 and 16 channels. The presenters’ working theory is that greater channel independence affords better spectrotemporal resolution. This presentation describes the relationship between spectrotemporal processing and CI outcomes for adult and pediatric CI users. This course was presented and recorded at the 2019 ASHA Convention. This session was developed by, and presenters invited by, Hearing, Tinnitus, and Vestibular Science.
