Summary: Speech and language skills are essential for literacy development. Structured Literacy is a comprehensive approach to literacy that is based upon language skills. This session explores the components of the Structured Literacy approach and discusses how SLPs can enhance students’ success not only in language but also in literacy using this approach. Summary: This course addresses assessment standards for confident diagnosis of exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) for clinicians across settings. Speakers discuss differential diagnoses and complex, co-occurring conditions as well as provide an update on terminology used to describe variants of what used to be commonly known as paradoxical vocal fold motion (PVFM). The speakers use case examples and research summaries to discuss current, evidence-based, behavioral methods for remediation and resolution of these conditions. Summary: Dyslexia and developmental language disorders (DLD) – relatively common, language-based disorders that affect children’s reading and academic achievement as well as social and life outcomes – frequently co-occur in the same child. This session examines the differences between the two disorders, how to identify children at risk for either or both, and how to provide treatment and accommodations to promote positive outcomes. Summary: Many SLPs who provide early intervention (EI) services are aware of the neurodiversity paradigm and neurodiversity-affirming practices but still have questions about incorporating these practices into their services. In this on demand webinar (available beginning April 6, 2024), the presenter will review practical resources and evidence-based practices for implementing neurodiversity-affirming care in the EI setting, including practical strategies for assessment, goal writing, parent coaching, and intervention.

Summary: The lived experiences of neurodivergent adolescents and adults reveal that changes are needed in how SLPs approach social communication assessment and intervention. Client-centered protocols for assessing social communication must address two goals: the needs of the student, and the perspectives and behaviors of the student's peers that support or hinder social interactions.
