Summary: This course focuses on two primary facets of social media use to promote your business. Summary: Older adults must make important decisions about their end-of-life care, and those with hearing and other communication disorders need special accommodations to participate in these important decisions to the fullest extent possible. This session discusses the communication needs of patients in the final stages of life, including the use of various hearing technologies, such as hearing aids, personal sound amplifiers, and pocket talkers. The presenters discuss tools to facilitate conversations among patients, family members, and caregivers.

Summary: This course explores factors that contribute to health inequities for individuals who report a hearing loss. Individuals with hearing loss report miscommunication, inaccessible health information, reduced awareness by health care providers, and low patient satisfaction while struggling with inadequate health literacy. The course discusses ideas for rethinking and redesigning our health care, through the guidance of innovative clinics and programs, to address these inequities and care for these individuals effectively.

Summary: Individuals with hearing loss experience negative psychosocial consequences such as distress, depression, and loneliness. If they also experience excessive negative emotional responses (i.e., confusion, frustration, anger) or reduced positive emotional responses (i.e., happiness) compared to listeners with normal hearing, they might be unmotivated to approach communication situations. This course describes a study whose purpose was to determine the feasibility of using facial expressions to measure emotional responses.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on health care and rehabilitation. SLPs are now treating large numbers of patients who were hospitalized for COVID-19. Meanwhile, another group of patients have emerged-those who experienced relatively mild cases of acute COVID-19 but now present with long COVID, a puzzling and debilitating set of symptoms. This session highlights patient experiences with COVID-19 and its aftermath and what clinicians have learned to date in treating these two groups of patients. The presenter identifies the gaps in care, the challenges that these patients face, and how we can best serve them going forward.
