Summary: This presentation describes the case of a 48-year-old female presenting with vertigo and disequilibrium consistent with mal de debarquement (MdDS) following a weeklong vacation cruise. MRI images, audiometric, and vestibular results are presented, as well as an in-depth review of MdDS and Chiari malformation and their impact on vestibular function and quality of life.

Summary: Emerging treatment approaches for age-related hearing loss include alternative interventions aimed at ameliorating symptoms and slowing down or even preventing hearing loss, in contrast with current treatment approaches, which focus primarily on amplification and communication strategies. This session will explore up-and-coming approaches, such as pre-clinical investigation of hormones (e.g., Aldosterone) correlated with auditory function; medicinal-related interventions; and challenges to timelines to bring new treatments to market.

Summary: Streamed audio has grown from a technological novelty into a distinct listening environment for hearing aid users. This presents a unique listening environment that can prove difficult to verify, as streamed audio is not an external stimulus and cannot be verified using conventional methods. This session describes a new and accessible verification method aimed at the streamed audio environment, ensuring that hearing aid users receive optimal benefit in their digital soundscape.

Summary: This session discusses a study of college students with and without developmental language disorder (DLD), who were compared on measures of how they plan for writing; how they revise their writing; and measures of length, complexity, and error production in handwritten and typed expository writing samples. Results suggest that typing provides longer samples and similar measures of errors and complexity compared to handwritten samples.

Summary: This course is the first in a set of practical programs that address specific aspects of remote practice (telepractice) in audiology. This initial course explores audiologists' perceptions of barriers to providing telehealth services and introduces the Health Belief Model (HBM) and Transtheoretical model to assess readiness for remote service provision. However, for 2023, Medicare removed the physician's order requirement in a way that has the potential to improve access to care for Medicare beneficiaries but also includes some limitations.
