Summary: This session provides a theme-based intervention framework for SLPs who work with toddlers and preschoolers via telepractice. The session begins with a review of the evidence for using theme-based intervention to promote communication development. Next, it discusses best practices for using appropriate technology, selecting toys and digital materials that incorporate themes, and formatting telepractice sessions to keep toddlers and preschoolers engaged while addressing their goals. Finally, it shares tools for successful planning and documentation, allowing participants to leave the session with the knowledge and confidence to begin using themes in your telepractice service delivery immediately. This course is a recorded session from the 2022 ASHA Convention Virtual Library (session 2162V).

Summary: Published research indicates that outcomes in children with hearing loss are generally lower than their hearing counterparts. Given the cascading effects auditory deprivation and language delays may cause in children, providing differential diagnoses can present a challenge. This course identifies commonly occurring comorbid presentations in children with hearing loss and describes the process of making differential diagnoses.
Presenter(s): Naomi Grinney, LCSW, IMH-E

Summary: This on demand webinar is for SLPs in early intervention who support families of children with both language and social-emotional delays. The webinar explores evidence-based strategies for supporting social-emotional skill development, examines the impact of grief and trauma on parent engagement and language, explains attachment styles, and shares strategies for building parent capacity.

Summary: This course focuses on a meaning-based approach to language assessment and intervention for intentional communication skills in young children. The nonlinguistic and linguistic context support meaning-driven communication expressed with language form from the child. Speakers discuss language sample analysis and the developmental hierarchy of Language Content/Form/Use, and highlight how this approach is less biased than norm-based assessments when used with children from culturally and linguistically diverse contexts.
Presenter(s): Kristen M Allison, PhD, CCC-SLP; Jenya Iuzzini-Seigel, PhD, CCC-SLP; Ruth B Stoeckel, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: This on demand webinar introduces practical clinical decision-making frameworks for evaluating and treating children with dysarthria and illustrates their application through clinical case examples. The course strives to increase SLPs' confidence in evaluating and treating children with dysarthria.

Summary: This on demand webinar explores provision of SLP services for preschool and school-age children with mild to moderate impairment in their development as a result of early medical diagnoses and experiences such as premature birth, congenital anomalies, and chronic medical conditions. The speakers discuss the impact of early diagnoses or disorders on children’s future development; the developmental outcomes for these children; and strategies and tools to support these children and their families.

Summary: SLPs are working with an increasing number of children and families who identify as bilingual, multilingual, or dual language learners (DLLs). This journal self-study explores how family expectations can impact the effectiveness of interventions, how expectations may vary across cultures, and what SLP interventions are considered evidence-based when working with DLLs and culturally and linguistically diverse families.
Presenter(s): Corey Herd Cassidy, PhD, CCC-SLP; Cynthia Core, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: This webinar explores the nature and typical development of speech sound production in children under age 3 with and without language delays or disorders. The speakers discuss best practices for assessment of speech abilities in young children as well as family-centered strategies to facilitate speech sound development within everyday activities and routines in early intervention.
Presenter(s): Rhea Paul, PhD, CCC-SLP

Summary: Toddlers with a range of communication disorders can be minimally verbal past the age at which children typically begin speaking. This session describes an integrated approach using AAC and interventions that target vocalizations to increase expressive language and speech production in young children who are minimally verbal or nonverbal. This course is a recorded session from the 2019 online conference “Birth to Three: Working Together to Serve Children and Their Families.” It appeared in the conference with the title Working With Preverbal Infants and Toddlers Toward Early Speech.
Presenter(s): Susan Nittrouer, PhD
Credit(s): PDHs: 2.0, ASHA CEUs*: 0.2
Summary: Early intervention programs and technological advances have made it possible for children born with hearing loss to attain levels of spoken language proficiency not previously possible. But these children need appropriate intervention to acquire spoken language at their optimal level. This webinar explores six principles of intervention that can effectively facilitate the acquisition of spoken language. Speaker Susan Nittrouer discusses relevant research and case studies to support the six principles and their role in maximizing outcomes.
