Summary: Children with developmental language disorder (DLD) can demonstrate a range of characteristics and challenges, which can appear not only in their language abilities but also in their cognitive and motor abilities. Summary: This course discusses strategies for filling possible gaps in knowledge about orthographic pattern learning, including language/literacy assessment profiles of students with the word-structure problems that typify dyslexia and how those problems are influenced by accompanying strengths or weaknesses of vocabulary and related skills needed for oral and written language comprehension and expression. Takeaways include parameters for making intervention decisions in an interprofessional, family-centered, curriculum-relevant environment.

Summary: This session provides a theme-based intervention framework for SLPs who work with toddlers and preschoolers via telepractice. The session begins with a review of the evidence for using theme-based intervention to promote communication development. Next, it discusses best practices for using appropriate technology, selecting toys and digital materials that incorporate themes, and formatting telepractice sessions to keep toddlers and preschoolers engaged while addressing their goals. Finally, it shares tools for successful planning and documentation, allowing participants to leave the session with the knowledge and confidence to begin using themes in your telepractice service delivery immediately. Summary: This session presents a review of the empirical uses of experimenter-created morphological awareness assessment tasks found in recent literature. The presenter summarizes assessments by type of morphemes assessed, type of morphological task employed, intended age ranges, and possible administration modes. The goal of the presentation is to provide clinicians with the relevant information from recent morphological awareness assessment literature for them to feel confident in selecting morphological awareness assessments for their own clients.

Summary: Published research indicates that outcomes in children with hearing loss are generally lower than their hearing counterparts. Given the cascading effects auditory deprivation and language delays may cause in children, providing differential diagnoses can present a challenge. This course identifies commonly occurring comorbid presentations in children with hearing loss and describes the process of making differential diagnoses.

This on demand webinar reviews the underlying causes of this disproportionality, the role that SLPs can play in prevention, and the importance of nonbiased assessment. The presenter discusses how SLPs can improve the accuracy of language-related disorder identification in schools by leveraging their unique skill set.
