Summary: This session introduces a language intervention program for middle and high school students-Philosophy for Adolescents-that is designed to support critical thinking, narrative and expository discourse, and the use of complex syntax and literate vocabulary such as abstract nouns and metacognitive verbs. The speaker discusses and demonstrates intervention using Philosophy for Adolescents through role-playing activities that engage participants as they work through a lesson in pairs or small groups.

Summary: It is incumbent upon each member of a patient's health care team to play a role in ensuring a safer medication use experience based on basic principles regarding polypharmacy. Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on health care and rehabilitation. SLPs are now treating large numbers of patients who were hospitalized for COVID-19. Meanwhile, another group of patients have emerged-those who experienced relatively mild cases of acute COVID-19 but now present with long COVID, a puzzling and debilitating set of symptoms. This session highlights patient experiences with COVID-19 and its aftermath and what clinicians have learned to date in treating these two groups of patients. The presenter identifies the gaps in care, the challenges that these patients face, and how we can best serve them going forward.

Summary: School-based SLPs who work with African American children can feel underprepared to properly evaluate their language abilities. This webinar explores variation in narrative practices common within AAE-speaking communities. Summary: This on demand webinar will discuss evaluating children with voice disorders, including determining the appropriate clinical path to a comprehensive voice evaluation. The speaker will present strategies and techniques for collecting and evaluating voice samples; highlight no-tech and low-tech assessment methods; and discuss the importance of identifying children with dysphonic voices from an educational and social-emotional perspective. Then, members of the Boston Children's Hospital's Cochlear Implant team discuss (a) the interdisciplinary evaluation process for determining candidacy for cochlear implantation, (b) the institution's aural rehabilitation protocol post-surgery, (c) specific outcome measures used to determine benefit, and (d) initial audiological outcomes for cochlear implant users with single-sided deafness.
