Summary: This session addresses the question of why patients with COVID-19 have such diverse clinical presentations. The speaker zooms in at the microscopic level to explore the nature and frequency of neurologic sequelae of COVID-19, covering findings observed on neuroimaging and cerebrospinal fluid testing. Summary: Acquired apraxia of speech (AOS) typically occurs alongside aphasia. Clinicians are often challenged with questions such as, “What should I work on first, and why/how?” and “How can I deliver intensive therapy in today’s healthcare system?” While there are a number of treatment approaches available for AOS, there are very few large-scale investigations of treatment efficacy to inform practice and limited studies that tackle the issues around intensity and concomitant disorders. This course summarizes the pros, cons, and similarities of impairment-based approaches to treatment for individuals with AOS plus aphasia.

Summary: Clinical services for tinnitus have expanded greatly since the "masking" method was introduced in the 1970s, but no one treatment method has proven any more effective than any other. This on demand webinar will explain Tinnitus Stepped-Care, a framework for providing tinnitus clinical services. The framework suggests guiding principles that are essential in each of six progressive steps of tinnitus clinical care rather than promoting specific procedures for assessment and treatment.

Summary: This journal self-study course examines remote treatment for aphasia, a topic that several researchers explored at the 51st Clinical Aphasiology Conference (CAC) in North Carolina. Articles examine the effectiveness of telepractice delivery of three types of aphasia treatment: conversation group treatment, Combined Aphasia and Apraxia of Speech Treatment, and Sound Production Treatment. The articles compare outcomes of the treatments when administered remotely vs. in-person.

Summary: This presentation highlights case studies exhibiting the SLP's role in assessing and treating previously healthy toddlers with disorders of consciousness in the acute rehab setting. These case studies demonstrate the opportunities and challenges of utilizing the pediatric Coma Recovery Scale when assessing these patients, the relationship between emerging oral motor skills and cognition, and treatment approaches for returning to PO intake in this population. Finally, these case studies highlight how interdisciplinary collaboration is one of the keys to success with this patient population.

Summary: This on demand webinar will explore right hemisphere brain damage (RHD) and the speech-language services that people with RHD may need to address cognitive-communication impairments. The webinar will address overcoming barriers to individuals with RHD receiving SLP services, evidence-based practices and tools for assessing and treating RHD, and ideas for improving assessment and treatment across the continuum of care.
