Summary: SLPs need to combine their understanding of physiology with multiple related factors to determine if an instrumental exam is needed, which exam is indicated, when it is needed, and why. The speaker discusses how school-based clinicians can advocate for students with voice disorders and their families by facilitating improved access to high-quality and comprehensive voice diagnostic and treatment services. Summary: This session reviews the emerging evidence of neurological manifestations of COVID-19 and identifies how SLPs can use their unique position to maximize patient outcomes-whether as a member of an interdisciplinary team or as a solo provider. The session strives to increase clinicians' confidence in their abilities to: identify common cognitive-communication symptoms for patients who have recovered from COVID-19, and evaluate and treat with an individualized, patient-centered approach.

Summary: This session addresses the question of why patients with COVID-19 have such diverse clinical presentations. The speaker zooms in at the microscopic level to explore the nature and frequency of neurologic sequelae of COVID-19, covering findings observed on neuroimaging and cerebrospinal fluid testing. The session summarizes data from neuropathological studies, discusses new studies on the involvement of the peripheral nervous system, and explores treatment considerations.

Summary: This session reviews prenatal airway development and abnormalities that can impact communication and swallowing. The speaker reviews different levels of respiratory support from low-flow nasal cannula to mechanical ventilation and speaking valve application for patients who are tracheostomy dependent with or without ventilator dependence. The goal of this session is to expand understanding of anatomy and physiology as well as the impact of anomalies on communication and swallowing.

Summary: Each year, parents and educators download hundreds of millions of educational apps. However, there is limited research on the efficacy of these apps. This course covers how school-based SLPs are incorporating these apps in their intervention sessions as well as the need for a tool to critically evaluate apps used in educational settings.
