Summary: Dismissing students from intervention can be a difficult and sometimes contentious process. How do we determine when services for speech sound disorders are no longer warranted? Summary: This journal self-study course highlights the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on people with aphasia, patients with cognitive communication impairments, and patient-provider communication. The findings can inform decision-making and assist SLPs in optimizing treatment for communication challenges for patients with COVID-19 as well as those for whom treatment has been altered as a result of the pandemic.

Summary: Social communication involves the integration of language processing, pragmatics, and social and emotional learning, and is a challenge for children who present with developmental language disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and social communication disorder. This session presents a bibliotherapeutic intervention approach that SLPs can implement within a plan-do-review format. This practical approach utilizes brief (~15 minutes) story sharing, story enactment, and journaling activities. The speakers present preliminary efficacy data for the intervention approach as well as provide materials and resources for its implementation.
