Summary: In this session, the authors briefly review the literature on the developmental risks and auditory effects of pediatric unilateral hearing loss. Then, members of the Boston Children's Hospital's Cochlear Implant team discuss (a) the interdisciplinary evaluation process for determining candidacy for cochlear implantation, (b) the institution's aural rehabilitation protocol post-surgery, (c) specific outcome measures used to determine benefit, and (d) initial audiological outcomes for cochlear implant users with single-sided deafness.

Summary: TMPRSS3 is a genetic variant associated with either progressive or congenital bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Summary: This session shares findings of an exploratory survey study exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on communication, mental health, and quality of life (QoL) in people who stutter. The course discusses how the pandemic affects people with communication disorders, then shifts to discussing mental health, communication, and QoL in people who stutter and how the COVID-19 pandemic amplifies existing challenges.

Summary: This SIG 10 activity includes four articles exploring mindfulness, quality of life, and the impact of COVID in CSD programs. In the first article, outcomes are studied when graduate SLP students engage in a remote synchronous mindfulness program (RSMP). In the second article, a tutorial for contemplative pedagogy in CSD classrooms is introduced. Next, the quality of life and sleep among Brazilian SLP students during the COVID-19 pandemic is explored. The last article describes an exploratory study characterizing CSD doctoral students’ experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.
