Summary: The lived experiences of neurodivergent adolescents and adults reveal that changes are needed in how SLPs approach social communication assessment and intervention. Client-centered protocols for assessing social communication must address two goals: the needs of the student, and the perspectives and behaviors of the student's peers that support or hinder social interactions. Summary: Like many other professionals, SLPs often use social media for the exchange of professional information as well as for personal engagement. Posting of client-related information, uncivil remarks, misrepresentation of services, and/or defamatory claims—whether intentional or unintentional—may cross the boundaries of ethical and legal behavior. Summary: This course addresses assessment standards for confident diagnosis of exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) for clinicians across settings. Speakers discuss differential diagnoses and complex, co-occurring conditions as well as provide an update on terminology used to describe variants of what used to be commonly known as paradoxical vocal fold motion (PVFM). The speakers use case examples and research summaries to discuss current, evidence-based, behavioral methods for remediation and resolution of these conditions. Summary: This SIG 1 activity focuses on evidence-based practices in literacy related to word reading, morphology, and vocabulary. The first article highlights the relationship between literacy and vocabulary learning and provides a tutorial on treatment options for vocabulary-based interventions for children with identified vocabulary deficits. The second article describes the developmental sequence of alphabet knowledge and demonstrates how to address this knowledge within three different service delivery modules. The third article explains the importance of targeting morphology in schoolbased speech and language therapy to support the literacy development of students with developmental language disorders. The final article describes the skills required for successful word reading and outlines how a speech-language pathologist can carry out an evidence-based approach for both assessment and intervention.

Summary: Self-directed speech, or self-talk, can support preschool and school-age children's executive functioning, but this type of non-social speech is often delayed in children with communication disorders. This session explores the link between self-directed speech and executive functioning and describes strategies SLPs can use to facilitate the use of self-directed speech during intervention to support executive functioning and reduce challenging behaviors.

Summary: This course discusses clinical considerations for stuttering assessment and treatment when working with individuals from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The course addresses cultural perspectives on stuttering, influence of dialect and bilingualism, family dynamics, stigma, standardized testing, language sampling, counseling, and treatment activities.
