Summary: This course is one part of a four-course learning path/course set, Foundations of Effective Supervision. The webinar discusses the challenges of speech-language service provision and supervision during the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the needs of clients, supervisees, and clinicians themselves. The pandemic has created many professional challenges for SLPs, including the need to quickly adjust to telepractice for service delivery and supervision, emotional stressors and trauma that may exacerbate clients’ communication difficulties, and vicarious traumatization of clinicians themselves. Summary: This course includes four recorded sessions from the 2016 online conference "Maximizing Functional Outcomes for Patients With Dementia." These sessions focus on identification and management of individuals with primary progressive aphasia, Alzheimer’s disease, other major types of dementia, and mild cognitive impairment. Summary: This SIG 1 activity focuses on ethical challenges that audiologists and SLPs may face in various school-based scenarios. A 5-step ethical decision-making approach is presented. An ethical decision-making model is used to help prepare clinicians for the ethical continuation of telepractice in schools. Summary: Multilingual children are often over- or under-identified as having speech- and/or language-related disorders. This on demand webinar reviews the underlying causes of this disproportionality, the role that SLPs can play in prevention, and the importance of nonbiased assessment. The presenter discusses how SLPs can improve the accuracy of language-related disorder identification in schools by leveraging their unique skill set. Summary: Professional fatigue and self-care are critical issues for audiologists and speech-language pathologists. Without attention and intervention, professional fatigue can negatively impact a professional’s home life, relationships, personal well-being, work life, and/or ability to deliver person-centered care. This course explores the concepts of empathy, emotional contagion, compassion fatigue, vicarious traumatization, and burnout as they relate to the professions and offers tips to avoid and address these challenges.

Summary: This is the first in a two-part course is designed to bring you comprehensive information on cleft palate assessment and treatment. From glottal stops to learned nasal emission, this course will help you hone your knowledge and clinical practice skills in assessing speech disorders associated with cleft palate/VPI. The speaker will discuss procedures and techniques, and share audio and video clips to demonstrate how to assess the variety and uniqueness of speech deviations seen in cleft palate cases. You’ll also learn how to distinguish “learned” from “obligatory”/physically based problems.
