Summary: Mediated learning experience (MLE) is integral to dynamic assessment, an alternative to standardized testing that accounts for individuals' unique cultural and linguistic identities. Summary: The focus on technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, and in turn, the lessening of in-person interactions, calls for attention to social-emotional learning (SEL) as well as academics. Summary: This session demonstrates how to use SUGAR, a method of language sampling analysis, for conducting and analyzing language samples more efficiently and effectively. The speaker shares free resources and a case study, during which participants can use the SUGAR framework to analyze a language sample, interpret the results, select intervention targets, and write curriculum relevant goals. Summary: Neurodivergent SLPs (including those with dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety, autism, etc.) have unique insights and expertise, making them invaluable assets for fostering client-centered care within speech-language pathology practice. In this session, three neurodivergent SLPs who started their own private practices due to lack of supportive and accessible options discuss employment and supervision barriers. They share systemic and individualistic shifts to support neurodivergent SLPs.

Summary: This SIG 2 activity, participants explore aspects of service delivery and advocacy for people with aphasia that are innovative and/or unique. The first article describes the creation of community aphasia groups and includes guidance for creating aphasia-friendly materials for a variety of purposes. The second article describes the challenges of people with aphasia in navigating the justice system and discusses strategies to support their success within that unique environment. The third article describes the nature of verbal short-term memory impairment in people with aphasia, methods of assessment, and potential directions for treatment.

Summary: SLPs who work with people with dysphagia face the challenge of identifying food textures and liquid consistencies that will optimize swallowing safety and efficiency while minimizing negative consequences on quality of life and nutrition. This session features case-based opportunities to practice the skills involved in determining when and how texture modification can be used to improve swallowing outcomes.
