Summary: Speech sound disorders (SSDs) exist along a spectrum of severity and abilities, with many involving both the motoric and the phonological system. As a result, many children with SSDs experience related issues with the phonological skills needed for word reading and spelling. This session reviews the Simple Views of Reading and of Writing and connects those theories to assessment practices. The speaker discusses ideas for adapting speech sound intervention activities to include phonological awareness, decoding, and spelling.

Summary: Multilingual children are often over- or under-identified as having speech- and/or language-related disorders. This on demand webinar reviews the underlying causes of this disproportionality, the role that SLPs can play in prevention, and the importance of nonbiased assessment. Summary: With all the developments and changes in aphasia therapy, clinicians can have difficulty keeping abreast of the latest and greatest tools and techniques to ensure they are selecting the best evidence-based treatment option to fit a particular client’s needs and language abilities. This video course uses the ASHA Practice Portal and other resources to explore case studies and apply aphasia interventions to achieve functional goals for adults of all ages. The articles – from an American Journal of Speech-Language Pathology special issue “Select Papers From the 2018 Charleston Swallowing Conference at Northwestern University” – will help SLPs develop a deeper understanding of how to select appropriate treatment techniques, as well as why those techniques can be impactful in improving swallowing function.
