Summary: Behavior regulation struggles are common issues facing not only school-based SLPs, but school districts as an entire entity across the nation. This course provides a general overview of behavior and its functions; background on the School Wide Positive Behavior Supports (SWPBIS) framework; and an in-depth look at evidence-based practices (EBPs), reinforcements, rewards, and consequences.

Summary: While clinicians may know the fundamentals of evidence-based practice (EBP), many struggle to implement EBP in real-world situations with their clients. Often, this is due to limited research, a lack of high-quality research, or the absence of a clear takeaway from external scientific literature. In this course, participants will learn more about these obstacles and strategies to overcome them. Learning how to navigate these barriers will assist clinicians in making patient-centered and evidence-based clinical decisions. Summary: This course illustrates how SLPs can develop appropriate, evidence-based, and practical treatment plans for patients with dysphagia based on the results of instrumental swallow assessments. Summary: Acquired apraxia of speech (AOS) typically occurs alongside aphasia. Clinicians are often challenged with questions such as, “What should I work on first, and why/how?” and “How can I deliver intensive therapy in today’s healthcare system?” While there are a number of treatment approaches available for AOS, there are very few large-scale investigations of treatment efficacy to inform practice and limited studies that tackle the issues around intensity and concomitant disorders. This course summarizes the pros, cons, and similarities of impairment-based approaches to treatment for individuals with AOS plus aphasia.
