Summary: Busy SLPs need solutions that support quality care within the time and resources available to them every day. Collaboration with speech-language pathology assistants (SLPAs) can maintain the integrity of services and continuity of care for patients, clients, and students and allow the SLP to practice at “the top of their license/certification.” However, for many SLPs, the thought of supervising an assistant comes with questions and concerns. This on demand webinar provides a framework for supervision and a discussion on how to ensure it’s a collaborative relationship for all stakeholders.

Summary: This SIG 10 activity focuses on student perceptions and experiences. In the first article, the experiences of SLP graduate students who previously worked as Speech-Language Pathology Assistants are compared with students who did not come into their programs with such experience. Implications for prospective students and program development are discussed. Next, authors investigate experiences of students and graduates of clinical doctorate programs, including the application process, their career goals and outcomes, and their general reflections on their decision to pursue the doctor of speech-language pathology degree. Third, authors present an examination of SLPs’ perceptions of graduate students in CSD who speak with vocal fry (a low-pitched, grating voice quality). Finally, in a mixed-method study, graduate and undergraduate students participate in a learning-by-teaching experience in two CSD courses. Three years of data is presented.

Summary: The lived experiences of neurodivergent adolescents and adults reveal that changes are needed in how SLPs approach social communication assessment and intervention. Client-centered protocols for assessing social communication must address two goals: the needs of the student, and the perspectives and behaviors of the student's peers that support or hinder social interactions. This session presents strategies and tools for addressing both goals.This course is a recorded session from the 2022/2023 online conference "Assessment, Eligibility, and Dismissal in Schools: Strategies, Tools, and Decision-Making."

Summary: This on demand webinar will guide SLPs in knowing what to listen for in the speech and resonance of children with cleft palate, cleft lip and palate, and/or velopharyngeal dysfunction and will discuss how to differentiate active, passive, and adaptive articulations. As audiologists are working with linguistically diverse populations, they may find themselves asking, “How should I evaluate speech perception in my patients who are not monolingual speakers of English?
