Summary: This presentation highlights case studies exhibiting the SLP's role in assessing and treating previously healthy toddlers with disorders of consciousness in the acute rehab setting. These case studies demonstrate the opportunities and challenges of utilizing the pediatric Coma Recovery Scale when assessing these patients, the relationship between emerging oral motor skills and cognition, and treatment approaches for returning to PO intake in this population. Summary: The use of telepractice for dysphagia management has increased dramatically due to the challenges of in-person practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this on demand webinar, the presenter will share step-by-step, evidence-based guidelines for the safe and reliable use of telehealth for dysphagia management in both pediatric and adult patients. The speaker will discuss legal safeguards, privacy and confidentiality considerations, technology infrastructure, clinician training and skills, facilitator training, and patient candidacy considerations. The webinar will include video case examples, problem-solving activities, and demonstrations of telepractice adaptations for clinical (bedside) swallowing evaluations and treatment sessions. During the webinar, the speaker will guide participants in the creation of a practical roadmap to implement telepractice with their patients with dysphagia.

Summary: While telepractice and tele-AAC services are often thought of as real-time services provided directly to an individual, asynchronous tele-AAC services that include highly individualized and clinically relevant content can be quite effective also. This course explores tele-AAC services as a continuum of support, highlighting the dynamic role of asynchronous tele-AAC in supporting not only the individual (with implementation and generalization, in particular) but also essential stakeholders, including communication partners. Summary: This session examine the often-daunting process of moving a child who is minimally verbal or nonverbal from a basic to a full-featured AAC system. The session covers the selection, use, and goal-setting process for a basic, functional communication and language development system while planning for assessment for and implementation of a fuller system. The speaker shares suggestions for designing effective intervention sessions and ideas for helping the team get on board. Summary: This session introduces a language intervention program for middle and high school students-Philosophy for Adolescents-that is designed to support critical thinking, narrative and expository discourse, and the use of complex syntax and literate vocabulary such as abstract nouns and metacognitive verbs. The speaker discusses and demonstrates intervention using Philosophy for Adolescents through role-playing activities that engage participants as they work through a lesson in pairs or small groups.
