Summary: This course addresses assessment standards for confident diagnosis of exercise-induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO) for clinicians across settings. Speakers discuss differential diagnoses and complex, co-occurring conditions as well as provide an update on terminology used to describe variants of what used to be commonly known as paradoxical vocal fold motion (PVFM). The speakers use case examples and research summaries to discuss current, evidence-based, behavioral methods for remediation and resolution of these conditions. Summary: This on demand webinar explores provision of SLP services for preschool and school-age children with mild to moderate impairment in their development as a result of early medical diagnoses and experiences such as premature birth, congenital anomalies, and chronic medical conditions. Summary: The experience of trauma or re-traumatization during a person's rehab stay can result in physical, psychological, and emotional health conditions, and can also impede therapeutic rapport, the patient's feelings of safety, and the overall healing and recovery process. This course examines trauma-informed care and its relevancy within SLP practice and discusses ways to implement practical methods of providing trauma-informed care in a health care setting.

Summary: These SIG 12 Perspectives articles provide information on current issues associated with visual processing of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) displays for people with traumatic brain injury, assessment of the expressive language abilities of Spanish-speaking children who rely on AAC, and culturally sensitive approaches to aided language modeling. Readers will be more adept at designing effective AAC displays for adults with traumatic brain injury and at providing AAC services to children from multilingual and multicultural backgrounds.

Summary: A culturally responsive approach to support clients and families from all backgrounds begins with understanding and meeting them where they are. Summary: It is commonly understood that better outcomes for management and treatment of hearing loss can be linked to greater knowledge and acceptance of the condition by the patient/client/student and their family. Summary: The session describes a case study that investigated the effectiveness of using a Comprehensive Integrated Approach to treat stuttering with a bilingual-bicultural Spanish-English adult who experienced stuttering. The case study queried whether a monolingual English-speaking clinician could effectively guide a bilingual-bicultural Spanish-English speaking adult who stuttered to transfer skills to a second language. The intervention addressed the client's bilingual-bicultural performance on measures of speech fluency, strategy use, reactions to stuttering, problem-solving, and quality of life.

Summary: Each adult with dysphagia presents with unique characteristics, each setting provides different challenges, and each treatment team functions in different ways. Therefore, in addition to possessing core knowledge, SLPs need to consider all related factors and apply critical-thinking skills to meet the needs of each patient. Summary: Management of patients with artificial airways does not end when they can communicate and swallow safely. This session will discuss expanding SLPs' perspective on appropriate targets, focusing on outcomes to improve the health and quality of life of patients with artificial airways from weaning to decannulation.
