Summary: Like many other professionals, SLPs often use social media for the exchange of professional information as well as for personal engagement. Posting of client-related information, uncivil remarks, misrepresentation of services, and/or defamatory claims—whether intentional or unintentional—may cross the boundaries of ethical and legal behavior. This session discusses myths surrounding social media, considerations for posting, and potential consequences of inappropriate use.

Summary: SLPs are working with an increasing number of children and families who identify as bilingual, multilingual, or dual language learners (DLLs). Summary: Individuals with hearing loss experience negative psychosocial consequences such as distress, depression, and loneliness. If they also experience excessive negative emotional responses (i.e., confusion, frustration, anger) or reduced positive emotional responses (i.e., happiness) compared to listeners with normal hearing, they might be unmotivated to approach communication situations. This course describes a study whose purpose was to determine the feasibility of using facial expressions to measure emotional responses.
