Summary: While the use of telepractice for dysphagia management has increased considerably due to restrictions on in-person practice during the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges still exist. This session discusses the remaining barriers to the adoption of telehealth for dysphagia services and ways to overcome them. The speaker explains an evaluation and decision-making process clinicians can use to determine if the adoption of telepractice for dysphagia care is right for them and discusses ways to advocate for and start developing telepractice models of care in a variety of health care settings.

Summary: Medicare beneficiaries are an important patient population to consider when developing a business model, and SLPs in private practice need to know how to enroll in and bill Medicare to ensure they are compliant with federal law. This course walks through the basics of Medicare credentialing, coding and billing, and documentation to ensure successful processing of claims and medical records that will stand up to scrutiny if audited.

Summary: An increasingly diverse United States means that clinicians are encountering more languages in hospital settings. SLPs and audiologists have a legal and ethical responsibility to ensure language access—that is, to actively bridge communication challenges between clinicians and patients/families who do not speak, understand, read, or write in the same language. This session discusses language access law and solutions for situations in which a trained medical interpreter is unavailable.

Summary: This recorded session from the ASHA Audiology 2022 Online Conference provides a comprehensive overview of today's modern and highly sensitive neurodiagnostic vestibular tests, including rotary chair, cervical and ocular vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP), and video Head Impulse Testing (vHIT), as well as postural stability assessments. The presenters discuss how integrating these tests creates a diagnosis-based strategy that provides the team of diagnostic and rehabilitation professionals with direction and guidance as to the best vestibular rehabilitation therapy (VRT) strategies for the individual patient. Summary: This course explores factors that contribute to health inequities for individuals who report a hearing loss. Individuals with hearing loss report miscommunication, inaccessible health information, reduced awareness by health care providers, and low patient satisfaction while struggling with inadequate health literacy. The course discusses ideas for rethinking and redesigning our health care, through the guidance of innovative clinics and programs, to address these inequities and care for these individuals effectively.
